Rene PETIT
13th Artillery Regiment – France
1918
Rene PETIT has been enlisted in 1918. He was 20 years old.
I have found in his military documents he was registered under recruitment N° 232.
He has been sent to Silesia (former Polish province, one of the main industrial regions of Europe) where French Army had to pacify the area.
His military booklet describes him as dark brown hair, dark blue eyes, straight nose, broad mouth with thick lips, height : 1.67 .M
Regarded as “very committed and reliable”, he has been rewarded for his brave attitude and cold blood during an accident that occurred in October 1918 : a canon has been damaged, he had it fixed with courage and effiency in spite of the violent bombing surrounding them.
Decorations : war cross, fighter cross (1918), Silesia award medal (1921). As a President of Freedom Comittee, Rene PETIT received numerous tributes, one of them from Lieutenant BRADY, american Army officer who freed Bruyeres le Chatel (South of Paris) in 1944.
